Why is spiritual awareness important?

My research indicates that attention to spiritual practice enhances life across multiple dimensions. With respect for your own definition of spirituality, when I talk about spirituality I focus on transcending what is in the past, claiming hope, joy and well-being in the present, strengthening awareness of personal worth and dignity, and experiencing inner peace.
